YDW6/DCYD salon: Fighting for Fair Maps - Monday, May 24

How can you - as a Young Democrat interested in the future of DC and fair voting nationwide - help protect your community and your fellow Americans' right to a fair vote? Join the Young Dems of Ward 6 and the DC Young Dems for a (virtual) roundtable discussion with Raffi Freedman-Gurspan, Deputy States Director, All on The Line, to talk redistricting. We'll dive into the weeds on how redistricting works and what you can do as an advocate in the "Fight for Fair Maps" both here in DC and across the country. Date: Monday, May 24 Time: 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Location: virtual (Zoom link provided upon registration) RSVP: https://www.mobilize.us/ward6demsdc/event/378774/ The U.S. Census, and the resulting redistricting processes using its data, has major impacts on Americans and their day-to-day lives. Redistricting maps, led by state legislatures or independent redistricting commissions (depending on state) and using Census data, impact everything from your right to vote, access to fair housing policy, how your community receives federal assistance, and much more. At the heart of these issues is Americans' right to vote and their ability to vote in representative, non-gerrymandered districts in order for their voices to be at the decision-making table.
