YDW6 Salon: District Task Force on Jails & Justice - Thursday, April 22
Updated: Apr 13
Dems 36 and under: mark your calendar for the Young Dems of Ward 6 next monthly salon, Thursday, April 22.
In February, the District Task Force on Jails & Justice published its Phase II report, Jails & Justice: Our Transformation Starts Today, an 80-point implementation plan for D.C. to invest in safe communities and to lower incarceration rates by half. It also proposes steps to regain local control over D.C.’s criminal justice system and to create one new non-traditional facility that would house all people still detained pre-trial or sentenced to incarceration, among other reforms.
Join us and representatives from the Council for Court Excellence for an overview of the Task Force’s process, findings, and recommendations, and to learn how you can get involved with advocating for change.
-Casey Anderson, Policy Analyst, Council for Court Excellence
-Tammy Seltzer, Director, DC Jail & Prison Advocacy Project at Disability Rights DC
(The YDW6 March salon on gerrymandering and fair election maps with Raffi Freedman-Gurspan from All on The Line had to be postponed due to a last-minute scheduling conflict. We will be rescheduling that session for late spring or early summer.)
