More than 75 DC residents joined the Ward 6 and Ward 7 Democrats at The Strand restaurant in Ward 7 on Monday, June 2 to hear Councilmembers Charles Allen and Wendell Felder share their thoughts on the future of the RFK site.
Over the course of a little more than an hour, the council members addressed a variety of topics including:
The long-overdue need for an "anchor" development in Ward 7 (regardless of whether it ends up being an NFL stadium or something else)
Parking, traffic, and the role of public transportation in developing the site
Environmental review and impact, particularly with regards to the Anacostia River and Heritage and Kingman Islands
Construction impact on the surrounding neighborhoods
Economic impact, including both temporary (construction) and long-term job creation
Impact of development on the existing facilities, events, and amenities at the site
Public safety
Housing, libraries, and schools for the site and new residents
The discussion was moderated by Andrew Lightman of Capital Community News (also an event sponsor).
