More than 75 DC residents joined the Ward 6 and Ward 7 Democrats at The Strand restaurant in Ward 7 on Monday, June 2 to hear Councilmembers Charles Allen and Wendell Felder share their thoughts on the future of the RFK site.

Over the course of a little more than an hour, the council members addressed a variety of topics including:

  • The long-overdue need for an "anchor" development in Ward 7 (regardless of whether it ends up being an NFL stadium or something else)

  • Parking, traffic, and the role of public transportation in developing the site

  • Environmental review and impact, particularly with regards to the Anacostia River and Heritage and Kingman Islands

  • Construction impact on the surrounding neighborhoods

  • Economic impact, including both temporary (construction) and long-term job creation

  • Impact of development on the existing facilities, events, and amenities at the site

  • Public safety

  • Housing, libraries, and schools for the site and new residents

The discussion was moderated by Andrew Lightman of Capital Community News (also an event sponsor).
