Juvenile Carjacking: Motivation and Accountability - Tuesday, January 30

Updated: Jan 24

As we all know, there's been a dramatic rise in carjacking in DC over the past few years, and a particularly dramatic rise in carjacking by juveniles, many of whom are not even old enough to have a driver's license yet.

Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen will moderate a panel discussion on the motivations that lead youth to carjack and the options the District’s justice system has to hold them accountable for their actions.

Date: Tuesday, January 30

Time: 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

In-person attendance is sold out, but the session will also be live broadcast on the Hill Center's Facebook page.

The discussion will address some of the issues raised in two recent Capital Community News articles:

Panelists include:

  • Matthew Graves - US Attorney for the District of Columbia

  • Jawanna Hardy - Founder, Guns Down Friday

  • Reginald Mathis - Credible Messenger, Building Blocks DC, DC Office of Gun Violence Prrevention

  • Kevin McGilly - foster parent

  • Elizabeth O'Gorek - Capital Community News

  • Brian Schwalb - DC Attorney General

  • Councilmember Charles Allen - Moderator
