Upcoming Events and Virginia State Elections

Fellow Ward 6 Democrats,

We know this edition of our bi-monthly newsletter is a little late, but we've been working hard to nail down the details of some exciting upcoming events that are now set, so we can share them with you.

Also, we're rolling into the last weekend before the Virginia state elections. The hundreds of postcards we wrote are arriving RIGHT NOW in the mailboxes of Virginia voters, but there's still time to canvass and phone and text bank, so if you have a few free hours this weekend or next Monday, Nov. 4 or Tuesday, Nov. 5 (aka ELECTION DAY), please consider volunteering to help #FlipVABlue.

October 15 VA State Elections GOTV/Postcard Party Recap

A small group gathered at Solid State Books Tuesday, Oct. 15, to knock out our final Get Out The Vote (GOTV) postcards for Dan Helmer and Sheila Bynum-Coleman.

This is our stack JUST for Sheila, and we had an equally impressive stack for Dan. Over the past two months, we held a total of five postcard parties, at which nearly 50 volunteers wrote more than 600 postcards. The postcards went in the mail one week ago and are even now arriving the mailboxes of inconsistent voters to remind them of the upcoming election, spur them to research Dan and Sheila, and encourage them to get to the polls and VOTE.

As a reminder, we are supporting the campaigns of three candidates in the Virginia state elections this fall, as we work to flip both houses of the Virginia state legislature blue.

  • Sheila Bynum-Coleman (HD-66), challenging incumbent Speaker of the House of Delegates Republican Kirk Cox
  • Dan Helmer (HD-40), challenging incumbent House of Delegates majority caucus chairman Republican Tim Hugo
  • Wendy Gooditis (HD-10), Democratic incumbent seeking her first re-election

All three are on the record in support of DC Statehood. They are also united in their support of issues that matter most to Ward 6 Democratic voters: sensible gun safety protections, protecting women's reproductive rights, support for the ERA, and ending extreme partisan gerrymandering.
